Wood Finish Base Powder (PU)

Durable · Smooth · High-Performance Finishes

Purpose-built basecoat for wood-effect aluminium profiles. Sharp Coatings’ Wood Finish Base Powder is a polyurethane (PU) system based on hydroxylated polyester resins crosslinked with block-out isocyanate & uretdione chemistry. It’s engineered as the foundation layer for heat-transfer (sublimation) wood grains, delivering the film integrity, flexibility, and colour stability required for architectural aluminium and other exterior-grade applications.

Benefits
Sublimation-Ready Basecoat
Provides an exceptionally smooth and uniform base layer, ensuring vibrant colour transfer and sharp image reproduction during sublimation printing.
Excellent Paper Release & Transfer Clarity
Engineered for clean paper release after heat transfer, delivering crisp graphics, accurate colours, and minimal ghosting.
Superior Flow & Non-Blooming Film
Advanced resin technology promotes smooth flow and levelling while preventing blooming and surface defects during curing.
Chemical, Scratch & Stain Resistant
Provides reliable resistance against chemicals, scratches, stains, and everyday wear, maintaining a clean and attractive finish.
UV & Weather Durable for Exteriors
Offers excellent resistance to sunlight, moisture, and environmental exposure, helping preserve colour and finish over time.
Flexible & Chip-Resistant
Maintains coating integrity under forming, handling, and impact conditions, reducing the risk of cracking and chipping.

Frequently Asked Questions

The PU system’s flow, flexibility, and colour stability create a smooth basecoat that enables crisp wood grain transfer and exceptional outdoor durability.
Yes, it can function as a stand-alone architectural basecoat for natural matte looks or as part of multi-layer systems like anti-graffiti stacks.
The transition from dead-matt to satin-like texture provides the most authentic, low-sheen wood-like appearance.
Its flexible, adhesive film maintains coating integrity on sharp corners, mitres, and curved aluminium extrusions.
Maintain specified film build and curing parameters, and follow the sublimation film supplier’s time–temperature profile for precise colour clarity and texture replication.
