Industrial Powder Coating
Zinc-Rich Primer Powder
Durable · Smooth · High-Performance Finishes
- Corrosion-controlled basecoat for all steel / aluminium structures. Sharp Coatings’ Zinc-Rich Primer is a thermosetting epoxy resin based powder formulated with zinc to deliver enhanced sacrificial protection for mild steel. Designed as the first layer in a multi-coat system, it provides strong adhesion and chemical resistance and is optimized for electrostatic spray applications. For exterior services, overcoat with a weatherable polyester topcoat. For sheltered interiors, it may be used as a stand-alone coating where specified.
Benefits
Sacrificial Zinc Protection
Provides active corrosion protection by sacrificing zinc particles to shield the steel substrate, helping prevent rust even when the coating is damaged.
High Adhesion to Mild Steel
Engineered for strong bonding with mild steel surfaces, ensuring long-term coating integrity and reducing the risk of peeling or delamination.
Excellent Chemical & Moisture Resistance
Creates a durable protective barrier that resists moisture, oils, salts, and common industrial chemicals, enhancing service life in demanding environments.
Optimized for Electrostatic Spray Lines
Designed for efficient electrostatic application, delivering consistent film build, excellent transfer efficiency, and smooth coating performance.
Exterior-Ready (with Polyester Topcoat)
When used with a suitable polyester topcoat, it provides enhanced UV stability, weather resistance, and long-lasting outdoor protection.

Frequently Asked Questions
Ans. It provides sacrificial protection by allowing zinc to corrode preferentially, preventing rust formation on steel.
Ans. When overcoated with a polyester topcoat, the primer achieves enhanced corrosion resistance, combining zinc’s galvanic protection with the topcoat’s UV and weather durability.
Ans. Apply the topcoat within 12 hours of curing the primer. If delayed for up to 24 hours, reheat the primed parts at 120–150°C for 10 minutes before coating the topcoat.
Ans. Yes, for indoor or sheltered areas, zinc primer alone provides adequate protection without a topcoat.
Ans. In a two-coat system, the coating withstood over 2000 hours of salt spray testing with no blisters or rust, demonstrating superior corrosion control for steel surfaces.
